"The question isn't whether students will use AI, but how well they'll use it. As educators, we have a choice: fear the future or shape it."

I think this is true for every new technology, because once it is out in the world someone will use it.

But never has there been a moment more important than now where we need structured and careful matching of purpose to learning as you have here, Kelly, through the case studies.

Karena, thank you 🧡 You always have a way of distilling the heart of the message. Totally agree—this has been true with every tech shift, but something about this moment feels more urgent. The stakes are higher, the tools are faster, and the gap between intention and impact can grow so quickly without that structured, thoughtful matching you mentioned. I’m grateful we get to swap stories and writing in real time—your reflections always push my thinking. Let’s keep shaping the future together.

Loved this Kelly:

“The question isn't whether students will use AI, but how well they'll use it. As educators, we have a choice: fear the future or shape it.”

As a parent of 14 year old twins, AI moves them further down the path of what they are exploring, given all their time constraints, so they can wrestle with deeper and more creative elements, vs. spending more of their time up front.

Great perspectives Kelly. 🙏🙌

Thanks so much for this, James ! And great framing - AI as a way to clear space for deeper, more creative thinking. Your teens are lucky to have a parent thinking about how they learn, not just what. Appreciate you joining the convo! 🙏
